Project Overview
The Museum Nasional Asset Management project was developed to digitize and manage Indonesia's National Museum vast collection of cultural artifacts and historical items. The museum needed a modern system to replace their paper-based cataloging and improve accessibility for researchers and preservation efforts.
Project Requirements
- Create a digital asset management system for the National Museum's collections
- Implement high-resolution image storage and management
- Develop comprehensive metadata and cataloging capabilities
- Build search and discovery tools for researchers and staff
The Challenge
The main challenge was creating a system that could handle diverse artifact types with complex metadata requirements while supporting high-resolution images and maintaining historical accuracy. Additionally, we needed to implement sophisticated search capabilities to help researchers locate specific items among hundreds of thousands of artifacts.
The Approach & Solution
We developed a comprehensive asset management system using PHP with an Oracle database backend. The system includes specialized metadata schemas for different artifact categories, support for ultra-high-resolution images with zooming capabilities, and advanced search functionality with multiple filtering options. We implemented a hierarchical categorization system that reflects the museum's organizational structure while enabling cross-collection searches.
